Brilliantly executed, wonderfully dark. Starts slow, but oh my gosh the twists had me reeling. Those last 100 pages or so were so captivating, i couldn’t put it down! I grew to love the characters and deeply feel for them. Leigh Bardugo has an excellent way of crafting complex, twisted protagonists who are certainly not good people (in any sense of the word) but are just so very human
(except when they’re not)

I only knocked off half a star because there were some parts of the dialogue that made me CRINGE a little, but I think it fit the characters well enough.

After reading through the reviews, it feels like people's biggest gripe about this book is the length/pace... my opinion is that if you don't like a slow burn, where the pieces of the puzzle inch closer, and closer until there's a clear picture... you probably won't enjoy this book that much. I really enjoyed the pace, I liked developing my own theories as new information popped up, and I loved being WRONG. There was so much revenge that made me go, "FUCK YES!" So many gratifying moments... I'm so excited to dive right into the second book. 🤩

In my opinion, the second half was much better then the first one. I fell in love with the characters in the second half; Darlington, North, Alex, Dawes. Can’t wait to see them in Hell Bent.

The pacing was a bit slow at first so be warned that for the first like 150-200 pages, it’s slow

I also didn’t have a problem with her writing here as I did with her ya series (shadow and bone and Six of Crows)

This is a fantastic book. While it is often heavy and hard topics, it is well done. I'm glad I read it and will read the sequel.
