Not my favorite Emily Henry but I liked it anyway!
This book was so fun! I love a good friends to lovers story, and Alex and Poppy are amazing! I loved getting the flashbacks of the past summer trips, as well as being on this adventure after several years of avoidance. Opposites can attract, and Poppy and Alex were such a fun couple to follow!

I know Alex was supposed to be this super buff guy, but for some reason I kept imagining him as kind of skinny, which threw me for a loop the whole time, lol. After reading the author’s note, I realized the book was meant to center around the idea of “finding your home” in the people who matter most. I love that message, but I don’t think it came through as strongly as it could have. The ending felt a little rushed, and at about the 200-page mark I caught myself wondering, “So what’s happening in the last 160 pages?” since everything already felt tied up and everyone seemed happy.
That said, I really appreciated the flashbacks. They gave the story more depth and made the inside jokes and small comments between Poppy and Alex feel more meaningful. Still, I think Emily Henry’s characters in her other books have had stronger chemistry than these two.
Overall though, this was a pleasant, lighthearted read. It wasn’t my favorite Henry book, but it had some sweet moments and a good underlying message about what (and who) makes a place feel like home.
Minor: Grief
ugh.
this book was about as good as it’s cover. & the cover is trash.
basically just an over-written, back & forth romance that makes me want to grab both of these characters by the shoulders & scream “oh my god just be together already!!! shut up!!!!”. my absolute dislike for this book could also be my dislike of the romance genre, but who knows. i was bored beyond words by how long-winded this book was. they literally just talked in circles.
thankfully i didn’t choose this book on my own merit, (it was a pick for book club at work) & thank god it’s over.

Communication is so important people pls COMMUNICATE with each other, I beg. Alex Nilsen the man that you are. The scene where Poppy was sick?? Ugh. I’m usually not a romance reader but I really enjoyed this story and the character's. Maybe I’ve been influenced.
