The imperfect characters and dysfunctional family dynamics pulled me in. The way they fractured, navigated crisis and found the resilience to forgive and love again, had me rooting and crying for them in the end. Such a great book!

What makes a person and how much of how that person is seen based on the actions of those people that we witness in our lifetime? How much of a persons soul do we miss when we only know them for a short time? Marley walks into mercury and takes the Joseph family by storm in one way or another. She lives in their home and loves them each in very different ways. Some are easy and some make it so very difficult. This book tells the twisted tale of how all these lives intertwine and connect despite many efforts to sever it. I think the struggles that each person has is explained in so many different points of view that you end up feeling compassion for them all no matter how many crazy choices some of them make. It’s easy to call any one of these characters as completely flawed and you’ll want to cast them aside and unsalvageable, but when you get a chance to hear their back story I dare you to not feel your heart soften for each one.
