4.5 This one surprised me! Part coming of age, part mystery, part romance, part period-piece and at the same time, the very definition of a character-driven novel. Loved and loathed them all in equal measure, at different points.

I really enjoyed this. There’s something so heartbreaking and also comforting about reading a story about a family whose flaws are so clear but they still try to love each other as best as they know how.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I felt it was just ok. The story felt disjointed at times and there also wasn't really a clear arc to the story, it kind of meandered around.

I’m probably in the minority here, but I felt like this one was just ‘meh.’

It started off strong: a body is found in the attic of a small-town church and a family is wrapped up into the mix. I was intrigued. I wanted to get to know these characters. I’m a sucker for a character driven story with a mystery to solve, but it fell super flat for me. The story felt disjointed, characters felt one dimensional and with no real arc to the story, it felt like we meandered down the streets of this small town, going nowhere fast.

Not every book is for everyone. This one may be for you. I’ve seen some good reviews. But for me, it wasn’t it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I LOVED IT. Absolutely nothing spectacular happened--it's a novel about family (the family you're born with and the family you create.) There were so many passages I would have marked and shared but couldn't because I read an ARC (please, Celadon Press, don't change anything!)

I adored this book. When it's published you better believe I'm gonna post the crap out of this one because it is beautiful. THANK YOU Celdadon for the ARC!
