Marley West first saw the Joseph brothers, of Joseph and Sons Roofing, on the roof. She had just moved to town and quickly found a place at their dinner table. The wife of one, the one that got away to another and carer to all the Joseph men and companion or perhaps competition for Elise. A family drama that explores what they can save or if they should build stronger.

I thought this books was just good. I found Burn’s writing engaging and truly capturing both the time period, small town vibe, and family dysfunction. I really enjoyed the first half of the book with the tension between the brothers and the growth of Marley. The pace is definitely a slower pace with more characters exploration. The last third of the book, however, through me a little. Marley, who was previously the main character, barely showed up, instead there was a lot of new backstory and even new plot lines introduced. A book with a strong message that might have lost its way a little bit.

Listened to this book. Really enjoyed the story. Family, secrets, loves, community, dreams.

This story was so sad yet so happy yet so hopeful. It was great. I drug my feet a bit because I had just been reading Daisy Jones and the Six, which is a very very different vibe. But once I got into it, wow I loved this book.
