The book was slow to get started, but that was due to my misconception. I started this without realizing at it was a series. I kept expecting to see more things that I recognized to happen more quickly. I almost put it down a few times. At the end I found that I enjoyed the book and I will be reading the next in the series.

It was interesting to read the beginning of the Robin Hood story with a Welsh setting. There is a large cast of characters, many of whom are traditional members of the story (Little John, Tuck, Marian), but its hard to figure out who is really the bad guy (the Sheriff) as there are quite a few contenders for the role. This is the first book of a trilogy, and I'm sure it will become clearer.
I was inititally drawn into the story quickly, and it moved along at a pretty good pace while keeping you interested. Towards the end of the book, I started loosing interest, so it took longer than normal to finish. I'll wait a bit before beginning the next in the series.

This book may start off as against the grain for most of us who envision Robin Hood in Nottingham and during the reign of King Richard during the Crusades. However, the idea that the legend of Robin Hood came from much earlier times intriqued me. As a historian I loved how my knowledge of the Norman conquest of England came into play here and enjoyed the story of the rise of Robin Hood. Can't wait to read the next book!
I love the idea of moving the Robin Hood legends to Wales and tying it in to some Welsh mythology, especially after reading the author's reasoning. I rarely go straight from one book in a series to the next, but in this case I'm going to.

The retelling of Robin Hood in a believable manner. Mr. Lawhead has a winner here.
Liked the retelling of this with the setting in Wales. Didn't find Bran all that sympathetic and thought his 'conversion' from self-involved brat to man of the people seemed a little too pat. Enjoyed the Merian sections. Thought the writing overall was good and that there was a reasonable amount of action and intrigue. Will finish the series.
