real life was an interesting experience
i think what the author did was really special by the book only taking place during a weekend but still having good character development and room for a plot.
I do know that if the book took place over a long span of time i would understand more and know where it was leading too (for both characters and plot).

in the end i think real life is truly a rare and spectacular book that is quite a treat to read.

I liked this book but I wanted more. I liked the descriptive language used throughout and I was invested in the characters for the most part but just as my interest was increasing there would be sections of the book that used complex scientific language which threw me off a bit. The book touches on themes of race and sexuality but I feel it could have explored them in greater depth. I also think the book was a bit problematic as none of the characters really developed. However, there was a chapter when Wallace revealed his dark past which clarified why he acted in certain ways. There is also no redemption arc for the characters. The book featured a pretty graphic sexual assault between Miller and Wallace. Miller apologises and Wallace accepts it and moves on...how!? The book also ended very abruptly with no real conclusion which left me feeling a bit confused.

I can appreciate the sociopolitical messages of this novel and have enjoyed others advocating the same, but this one wasn’t my cup of tea at all.
