Na het lezen van het eerste deel, wilde ik eigenlijk het liefste meteen door met het tweede deel. Nu weet ik dat binge readen bij mij vaak leidt tot een reader's block, dus ik mag het van mezelf niet meer. Ik moet altijd minimaal een, maar bij voorkeur meer, boeken van andere auteurs lezen voor ik verder ga met een boek van dezelfde auteur of serie. Maar, vandaag vond ik dat het kon en dus is het eerste wat ik vandaag gedaan heb, dit boek oppakken.
Aan de ene kant is dit een typisch tweede deel in een trilogie. In het eerste boek hebben we de situatie geschetst en ontdekt dat het anders moet, in dit boek is Violet met name op de vlucht en op zoek naar manieren om die situatie dan te veranderen. Het boek mist daardoor een bepaalde spanning die het eerste deel wel had, maar het leest nog altijd even lekker weg en het is ook nog even verslavend en lastig weg te leggen.
Daarnaast breidt dit boek de situatie nog wat verder uit. We weten al dat de situatie van de surrogaten verschrikkelijk is. In dit boek krijgen we ook iets meer informatie over de levens van de andere mensen in The Lone City. We leren wat meer over de gezelschapsjongens, hun opleiding en hoe hun leven eruit ziet. We krijgen ook een glimp te zien van hoe de hofdames geworden zijn wie ze nu zijn. Het is, net als het verhaal van de surrogaten, allemaal verre van menselijk.
Ook geeft dit boek een heleboel antwoorden als het gaat om de krachten die Violet heeft, wat haar bijzonder maakt en ook waar de krachten van haar en de andere surrogaten eigenlijk vandaan komen. Ik kreeg daardoor steeds een beter beeld van de stad, de machtsverdeling en wat er eigenlijk gebeurd is en wat de mogelijke weg uit deze situatie zou kunnen zijn. Ik ben dan ook heel benieuwd wat er in het slotdeel van de serie gaat gebeuren!

The White Rose was deliciously written, packed with drama, mystery, betrayal and plot twists fans of The Jewel will love it! I finished in less then two days (Note: This review was written in May), so I abandoned studying and preparing for prom to finish this, I loved it that much!
The White Rose picks up right were The Jewel ended, Ash is locked up and Violet stuck in her room. When we thought things couldn't go worse the Duchess arrives, and if you have any hope that she has a kind bone in her body, you are wrong. Lucien manages to get Violet, Raven and Ash out of the Jewel and into the farm lands to a place called The White Rose, where the head of the rebellion is located. Lucien things Violet is the tool they need to bring down the royalty and end surrogacy for good.
I loved the growth of Violet from The Jewel to now, her growth is amazing. I spent a good majority of my The Jewel review complaining that Violet did nothing to gain her freedom, even when things were going down hill. Finally in The White Rose she took those leaps she needed. Amy expanded on all of her characters in this novel, especially Raven who had quickly has become one of my favorites. One of Violet's strong suits is loyalty to the people she cares about, she refused to give up on Raven, she supported Ash and trusted Lucien even when his choices were questionable.
Another complain I had with The Jewel was the Auguries, and the history of the island not being explained well enough. Things aren't what they seemed to be though, history has been twisted. The way the Auguries had come about wasn't something I expected, but it was an interesting twist and the already screwed up history of the island.
I am going to believe that Amy likes to make her readers suffer with cliffhanger endings. Considering I found the ending to The Jewel predictable I was thinking the same was going to happen with this one. Boy was I wrong. I never saw that ending coming, and I am dying to know what is going to happen. Overall I really did enjoy The White Rose.

wow. I knew she would be involved but that?? Horrible.
I hate the Countess of Stone. She is horrible. All of them are really and thank goodness they are going what they are doing. Overall pretty good.

218 of 320 pages and DNF. I decided I had enough other books to read to waste my time finishing what I don't enjoy.
It was just too boring. Too similar to other dystopia books and with no interesting characters and an unbelievable insta love.
