My mission is to read every Shakespeare play before I turn eighteen, and that means going to thrift shops and finding plays or sonnets I have never heard before.
I picked The Winter’s Tale as:
- I love winter.
- It was the cheapest Shakespeare play available.
If you know me, I’m not a huge fan of infidelity or anything that has something to do with that, but I had to give it a try. And it was amazing. The first three acts were my absolute favorite because I love an action punch. The last two acts were also good, but not as good.

I laughed when the king swore that the Oracle of Delphi lied about his wife not cheating on him, and his son immediately died. Otherwise, I hated this. The story is horrible, and I listened to the worse quality audio recording I’ve ever encountered. It sounded like someone put a tall mic in front of a stage and just ran the stage play. 😂 So hard to hear, except when they played loud trumped fanfares 😦 Admittedly, I mostly read this because I needed something older than 1800 and a Shakespeare play for two different reading challenges here on Storygraph.
