An good read, the follow up to All American Girl... a bit to sexy for Mita (12 years) to read though :(

*4.5 this was a very cute (and easy) read!! it was really enjoyable and it was a good read especially since that the last few books I've read weren't very good!

Not one of my favorites, but cute.

I liked American Girl & read it ages ago. I read this one ages ago as well, when it first came out. In fact my copy was sent by the author after I won some sort of contest. I read it immediately after. I always thought it was a pretty decent display of how teens feel about the whole sex issue. At least I did when I was a teen. And you know, it's pretty relatable even though it occurs between the First Son and the girl that saved the president.
I've been on a Meg Cabot kick lately, rereading all the old books. I've gotten through the princess diaries, these two books, Avalon high & Teen Idol. The problems the characters face aren't so relatable to me now but it's kind of fun to read them and remember the person I used to be who disappeared into these books & related to these characters

OMG DAVID

I know! Again with the Meg Cabot. But I was looking for the 3rd book in that Airhead series and I was already in the "C"s anyway. This is a YA book, sequel to "All American Girl," and the heroine is a girl who saved the president's life so has become a teen ambassador, as well as landing a boyfriend in the First Son. In this book she tries to decide whether she's ready to go all the way with the boy. Samantha, the star of this book, seems to be Allie Finkle all grown up--they both have/had a cat named "Mewsie" and hate red food.

I regret not getting to ask Meg Cabot, when I went to a speech of hers, if she writes Allie Finkle for a couple hours in the morning, and then Size 12 is Not Fat books in the afternoon, Queen of Babble in the late evening, and vampire books overnight....or what.

Listen. I get why people could be grumpy about what this book focuses on (spoilers - it's sex) BUT there are SO FEW YA books that look at sex this candidly and I know for me as a teen, it reinforced for me the idea of knowing when I was ready.

This book is not as good as the first - Sam doesn't feel like the same character in a lot of ways, Jack's family name is for some reason now Slater, for example. But there are some improvements or rather things that are just good. Lucy is a fully fledged character and is the best part of the book. I love seeing their sister relationship heal and grow.

David is still amazing. I love him.

Dauntra isn't necessary and her character drags down the book imo. I think this book more heavily indexing into what the president's politics are worked without her being there.

And I go back again to how much this book focuses on how the American society views sex in regards to teen girls - eg, If they have it, they're sluts, if they don't, they're perfect angels. That's gross and unnecessary. Women are autonomous and teaching them that sex is a power they hold equally is important. American sex education also COMPLETELY glosses over teaching what it means to be ready AND responsible. Readiness varies from person to person and that is a huge part of the characters' arcs here.

This book does not tell girls to have sex. It tells them that when they're ready they'll know.
