Stolen Songbird, the first book in this trilogy was a magical read for me. It had a lovely romance that built on the characters getting to know each other, a very suspenseful and fast-paced plot, and an intriguing take on trolls and their mythology. The world-building was especially immersive, and I am delighted that all of the things I loved about the first book, is expanded and built upon beautifully in Hidden Huntress.

There's already a lot of tension in this story because of the way the first book ended. While in the first book I did not always love the dual POV between Cécile and Tristan, in this book it was absolutely necessary and the two storylines meshed together perfectly. It's also a major plus that both storylines were equally riveting. Sometimes when a book switches to a different plot line at the end of a chapter, I feel frustrated and indifferent to the new direction the story takes because I want to keep going with the other set of characters, but with Hidden Huntress, I was totally engrossed the whole way through. The author did such a wondrous job of keeping the pace and the interest in both plot lines pretty high all the way. This is such an excellently plotted book - there is no second-book syndrome here!

With the romance between Cécile and Tristan being part of the reason why I loved the first book so much, I was afraid I wouldn't enjoy this one because of the circumstances from the first book. But again the author manages to keep the tension of the romance going despite the separation. And I was totally satisfied with every aspect of it. Cécile and Tristan have such great chemistry as characters - it's so easy to understand them and root for their happy ending.

Another aspect that I loved about this book is learning more about the fantasy world. This story takes some interesting twists, and manages to make the world of Trianon just as fascinating as Trollus. Which, given how wonderfully detailed Trollus was in the first book, is no small feat! I also loved getting to see more of Cécile's family and friends which helped to flesh out more of Cécile's character.

Even though the ending, which is very dramatic, sets up the third book beautifully, I was so glad that some important plot threads were wrapped up, and there's a real sense that the story and the characters are developing believably. This was an exciting read, with just more of everything that made the first book amazing. I can't remember the last time I was so completely satisfied with a book in every respect. If you want a gorgeously detailed fantasy with strong characters and a romance that will make you melt, this is the series for you!

(I received this book from the publisher or author for a fair and honest review. I was not compensated for this review.)
adventurous challenging emotional medium-paced

Hidden Huntress continued about 3 months after Stolen Songbird ended. Cecile has been kicked out of Trollus and misses Tristan dearly. Heck, I missed Tristan even. They were such a cute couple and I definitely needed more coupley (couply? is this even a word? meh!) moments from them.

Now this book does try to give you a good mystery shove but it's also kind of predictable. Like super freaking predictable. I'm still looking for the singing trolls.. but hey, I can keep looking in book three.

Besides kind of knowing how most of the story would happen and loving the characters - I still dreaded the cliffhanger!! UGH! I hate those things because now I'm sucked into looking for the next book. Not that it's a bad thing I just don't want to end up reading it and then being disappointed because it was predictable, like this one.

Overall, it was an enjoyable book. I loved the swooning and aweing over Tristan. I loved getting little moments of Tristan and Cecile together - I JUST WANT MORE!

4.5, this was my favorite book in the series. I usually favor the books that separate main protagonist couples because you really get a feel of their characters when they are not swamping their love interests, and it tends to be when you get the most character development. I wasn’t let down, I had meh feelings for Cecile before but I loved her strength of character in this book, something I didn’t get in the first book because(tristian was there to save the day always) there wasn’t much opportunity. Tristian was okay, still felt kinda meh about him.

ALSO, that villain.

Give me a good villain.

She was savage AF. Best villain of the series imo. Wish the last book had her in it, i really missed her.

Thanks to Netgalley and Angry Robot for giving me this book to review.

Cecile is free of Trollus and she has been living with her mother for 3 months in Trianon, singing in the opera every night but her true goal is to find the witch who has trapped the trolls for 500 years and free her husband. In Trollus, Tristan has been imprisoned for treason but now he is free. All of his hard work of gaining the half-bloods trust has now been destroyed but he is still determined to fix the injustices for the trolls. With Cecile making an ill-considered deal with the King, she has to find the witch before she goes mad, but can she do it in time?

Hidden Huntress is the really enjoyable sequel to Stolen Songbird, with action suspense and romance. The first half of this book was really slow and not much happened, but the second half did pick up. However, this book was predictable, especially the villain as it was so obvious who it was, but throughout the novel I thought it was a red herring.

I struggled a bit with Cecile in this book, not that there was anything wrong with her, she was still stubborn and compassionate, I just was not as interested in her side of the story. I much preferred Tristen as we got to see more of him than the other book and see how responsible he is but also that he is willing to acknowledge his mistakes.

This book definitely suffers from second book syndrome but I am still looking forward to the next book. I would recommend Hidden Huntress to fans of the first book in this series Stolen Songbird.

Really enjoy this series👌🏼 cliffhanger tho

Second read through and this is still just *so* good. What started as a simple enough story turns into something epic with this book. Even knowing how it was going to end I was still on the edge of my seat the whole time. Not much I can say because spoilers, sadly. But just.. go read this series.

Now on to book three!

Like most other readers have commented, this book moved a bit slower than the first installment. However, the last third of the book is very high tempo. I have high hopes about Warrior, especially with the cliff hanger that we have been left with. I'm counting on Cecile's ability to do magic to really kick in the gear in book 3. I feel like she, as a character, has been building up to becoming a force to be reckoned with. We shall see! Excited for May!
