Clever, simple graphics, interesting, gripping - the most enjoyable graphic novel I've read in awhile!

This book was not at all how I imagined it. Much more epic and interesting than at first suspected. It was funny but also emotional and had a great story arc. The compilation format really worked even though it was as big as a small phone book. A bit lord of the rings, a bit Harry Potter, and lovely illustrations. I wish though it had all the color covers of the individual books. I guess I could have read those and seriously inflated the number of books I've read this year. I thought the end was a bit ex machina because I didn't quite understand how what they did did what it did, sort of anime-syndrome. I'd love a sequel that shows Boneville, I'm very curious about that place.

Read it with my son as a bedtime story and we both got really into it. First time i really looked forward to the story as much as he did

Real good, but not as great as the hype, IMO

I have never in my life read a more perfectly crafted graphic novel. The time and effort Jeff Smith took to self publish a whole story over the course of 10+ years is a really incredible level of commitment. The characters are all charming and it manages to both be a sweeping epic and a goofy Saturday morning cartoon at the same exact time.

This may have just become one of my favourite ever books. Think Disney meets Tolkein - not "Disney does Tolkein", rather "Tolkein does Disney". I hope they don't screw up the film...
