The world building is really great and also the plot keeps you intrigued even when there’s less action.
I liked Katniss as the main character. She’s brave and smart, just a natural leader that people can learn from.
If you enjoyed watching the movie or just want to start a new series, I think The Hunger Games is great!!

the hunger games truly is the best series that came out of the YA dystopian boom of the early 2010s - nothing from that era has been able to top it.

I read this when it came out, I think I was eleven, and a lot of it went over my head because I was so young. I didn't catch the allegory really, or the morality play, nor did I fully understand the power of dystopian (or utopian, for that matter) fiction at that age. but with my knowledge and life experience now, I can say this is really phenomenal for what it is. I usually don't like reading, or listening, in the first person but third person would not have suited this book at all: we need to be inside katniss' head. it's just wonderfully written.

tatiana maslany was amazing! she's one of my favorite actors so I loved listening to this a little bit more
