I generally hate 'it's x meets y!' type summaries--it's [b:1984|5470|1984|George Orwell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165522327s/5470.jpg|153313] meets [b:To Kill a Mockingbird|2657|To Kill a Mockingbird|Harper Lee|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1234606708s/2657.jpg|3275794]! [b:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy|11|The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide, #1)|Douglas Adams|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1262728063s/11.jpg|3078186] meets Thomas Paine's [b:The Rights of Man|99955|Common Sense, The Rights of Man and Other Essential Writings of Thomas Paine|Thomas Paine|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171458285s/99955.jpg|3468259]!--but the first volume of Suzanne Collins' breakout YA series really IS [b:The Long Walk|9014|The Long Walk|Stephen King|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165856860s/9014.jpg|522169] meets [b:Battle Royale|57891|Battle Royale|Koushun Takami|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31ED3F1GGRL._SL75_.jpg|2786327]. Only it's better than both of them. Collins brings together thrilling action and complex characters--my favorite combination--in a book that, to utilize another appropriate cliche, you really will not want to put down. I can't wait to read the next one.

i haven’t read any of the original hunger games books since 5th/6th grade when all the movies were coming out, and i remembered almost nothing from them. but, after finally having read the ballad of songbirds and snakes and seeing the movie, i knew i wanted to reread them.
god this was so good. so much incredibly rich detail that you sometimes just can’t translate to screen. i’m so fucking glad i reread this, it’s too goddamn good. on to catching fire next!

I enjoyed it. It's very interesting, but also very dark like it promises to be.

not sure if it's a 4.5 or a 5.
I mean it's a classic, I loved it when I was little and I love it even more now.
also I forgot how much I actually liked Peeta as a character.

Re-reading The Hunger Games ahead of this month's release of Ballad of Songbirds of Snakes. Still think this is one of the best YA novels ever!

I was hearing about this book a countless of times and decided to put it on my to-read list. Well i'm not disappointed! It kinds of made me think of Battle Royal at first.
This is an interesting, horrible story but fascinating too. The Capitol organises The Hungers Games where 12 Tributes are fighting until death for survival and glory for their respective tribes. The second part of the book when the Game starts was so thrilling to read. I was hunging upon every word of every page. So people, go reading it if you seek an exciting and inventive book. I promise you won't stop reading it until you finish it!
