This was just okay. I enjoyed listening to it but I don't care to read the whole series of this. It's not one I will rave about.

It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I tried to start the series on Netflix too, but I don’t know. I just thought all the character were pretty flat….I didn’t really connect with any of them or feel empathy for them.

Andrea and her mother Laura are enjoying a quiet lunch at the mall when a lone gunman opens fire killing two innocent people.Laura a cancer survivor and a speech therapist trying to save Andrea manages to disarm and kill the gunman . This incident sparks a chain of events that embarks Andrea on a difficult journey to discover who her mom really is.

Pieces of her is a stand alone fast paced character driven thriller by Karin slaughter . Although not as as dark as her other books it is an entertaining read with emphasis on how far a mother would go to protect her child. I’m a huge fan of Karin Slaughter and cannot wait for her next one.

I would like to thank Edelweiss+ and the publishers for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

This was a fun thriller. I really enjoyed the characters and their perseverance. I can’t believe it’s taken this any years of my life to discover Karin Slaughter’s books.

OMG you guys, this book is literally unputdownable.

I have always been fascinated about cult stories, you know, like the Charles Mansion family, People’s Temple, NXIVM etc. I have probably seen all documentaries about them as well. But for the first time, I’m reading a book that explores this premise in such a unique & fascinating way.

Here’s a brief synopsis,
Imagine having a quiet daughter – mother lunch at an upscale restaurant. And suddenly, a 20 something kid comes in & starts shooting people in the restaurant. Your mother intervenes in such a way, that is unrecognizable.
Within minutes, she has the situation under controlled & has killed the kid, albeit in self-defense. Your mother ‘Laura’, who is just a regular old mom, who is a speech therapist & seen as a kind, friendly lady just turned into a ninja LOL.
But what is more shocking, is what follows after this event. As Laura’s past threatens to destroy them, Andrea, (Laura’s daughter) is left to piece together Laura's former identity and discover the truth - for better or worse - about her mother. Is the gentle, loving woman who raised her, a violent killer in her previous life?

Thoughts
A psychological thriller that slowly peels away the complex layers of a woman who has had a traumatic childhood which led her to an equally harrowing relationship with a con man and then her ultimate triumph.

There is so much to this story that I don’t even where to start. It’s a multi narrative book with dual timelines, which gives this book an almost crescendo type reading experience.
The prose is hauntingly beautiful when the author takes us back to Laura’s past and you witness the atrocities & it is tender when the author talks about the mother-daughter relationship.
It’s an engaging thriller with some amazing characters! A must read or you can catch the series on Netflix!
