This was such a beautiful piece of literature to read both in its language and how images were painted for us but in how it made such an epic scope of stories we’ve heard time and time again feel so personal and intimate. Ugh, I already want to read it again and I’m already wishing I can read it for the first time all over again. I hope this one remains a classic and as integral to Circe’s story as the original myths themselves.

I missed when this was massively trending back during covid but as much as it wasn’t an all time favourite I can admit the hype was for a reason.

This tale follows the tale of Circe and essentially the stories of her life and the people she meets.  Which is shockingly a lot considering early in the book she gets herself exiled for life to an island.

Weirdly poetic at times it had some beautiful quotes.

Such divine writing, the book has a story that thoroughly flows and it does a fantastic job at 'showing and not telling' when describing things. It is quite slow paced but I really enjoyed it and some things are a bit graphic. Circe's story was so raw and heartfelt, I was wholly enraptured with its events. Trigger warnings should be checked and im not sure why i was surprised about the incest in Mythological times.

Circe was an easy to read book that held me in its grasp, which is why I finished it within two days. The prose was not complicated or convoluted, but I tend to like a more lyrical and expansive style of writing. Especially thematically, I felt that the author merely scratched the surface. The book felt elementary, which is not bad but it did not fully soar like it could have. As a result, I did not fall in love with any characters or was moved to tears. Nevertheless, an impressive feat for a broad audience that introduces important (feminist) topics.
