oh, antigone, you are always dead. truly one of thee characters of all time!
ugh, guys, i’m fucking floored. it’s almost like modern classics are modern classics for a reason (said with my head in my hands). it’s so interesting that anouilh’s ANTIGONE grounded her piety into dust, until the gods were gone and all that is left is her dead brother, her father’s stubbornness grafted onto her dna, and death-dirt under her fingernails. antigone is both larger than herself (a beacon, a symbol) and smaller than the narrative demands of her (a girl, a sister)—a janus-like figure, in a sense. i find that, culturally, this play being written and performed under nazi occupation in france lends itself to the multifacetedness. incredible work. made me go nuts in tragic agony!
