1½* Probably the worst book I've read so far this year. Very stale and boring. It's very easy to get lost and you would not care about any character. This book is why you always show and not tell, and for a play it just feels like two long monologues from Antigone and Créon. I assume that Anouilh thought he was writing a masterpiece but it turned out to be a mess: it was too modern to be ancient; too ancient to be modern, too familial to be political, and too political to be familial. But it had funny moments with the grads.

Struggled to finish this bc French isn’t my native language but I didn’t hate it! I could see myself a lot in Antigone, someone who’s very headstrong and won’t take no for an answer when she wants to do what’s right
