I really wish I’d read this when I was 15. Fear, belonging, the largeness of the world, every person’s role within it— McCullers nails every impulse and question of a wayward twelve year old girl.

I wasn't super crazy about this book, but I definitely didn't hate it. The good points? it was an extremely easy, very quick read. And it kept my interest piqued once I got into it, so I did get through it really fast. I found Frankie's character to be extremely interesting and wrll written, despite the fact that she annoyed the hell out of me. Which I guess brings us to our bad points. Frankie annoyed the hell out of me. But, in a way that I kind of understood. it is not eady to be a pre-teen, and I kept thinking that I would have enjoyed this book so much more had I read this at a younger age and perhaps understood Frankie's POV better. However, that's all we get is Frankie. Even though Berenice and John Henry are mahor factors in this book, I got no characterization from them. And their ages and intelligences and roles in Frankie's life totally confused me until they were explained, if ever. I mean, what 6 year old behaves and talks like John Henry?

Lastly, it did take me about 50 pages to really get into the book. It was a slow go at first. Would I read it again? No, probably not. But it was fair entertainment for a couple of days.
