literally one of the worst books i have ever read. i really thought i would like this book from the initial plot summary, but the main character is just so annoying. she's like a white nyc transplant tiktok lesbian that thinks that she has something new/interesting/intelligent to say about gender and sexuality when she doesn't! she's so self centered and whiny and i cannot stand her. i don't know if the author was intentionally writing the main character to be unlikable or not but if she was she definitely succeeded there. and there is another character that is 100% meant to be rachel maddow and it is not subtle.

the book is also just poorly written and feels like it was not edited at all. there were multiple parts where the author repeated specific words or phrases too close to each other (like a page or two apart) which ends up sounding kind of awkward. also, there are many times where it feels like the author pulled out a thesaurus to find a more academic or smart sounding word to use in places where it doesn't make sense and ends up kind of interrupting the flow of the text.

i'm really disappointed because going into it i thought i would love reading dykette and now i'm just glad that i checked it out from the library and didn't waste any of my money on it. i'm a lesbian in my 20s and i really thought that this book would be right up my alley but it's awful.

I really really wanted to love this book, and there were aspects I found funny and engaging, but I found Sasha (the mc) to be kind of insufferable as a narrator, and her strange obsessive like/hate of every other character off putting. I do think the queer community satire in this is really well done and funny, I think unfortunately the MC just isn’t for me. The opening to this book though is iconic and hilarious.

you’d like to believe that the characters in this story don’t exist in real life. unfortunately, they so do, and the author is definitely one of them. still, i enjoy witnessing petty gay catfights and it kept me hooked with the promise of one huge boiling over of tension in that damn house, even if that promise was never fulfilled
