This is not my favorite of the series, for spoiler reasons.
If you've read the previous books in the series, this one probably won't be that much of a surprise. Normal human falls in love with "monster"; monster falls in love right back. Monster has some monstrous peculiarities but is actually fine once you get to know them.
It reminded me of nothing so much as a fic I've read wherein a character who has killed in the past has killed again, seemingly uncontrollably, because (I think? I'm not going to re-read to figure out) someone had looked at his love interest the wrong way. The love interest thinks this is fine because the person killed was a creep and basically just says "don't do it again".
To me, uncontrollable murder rages are a concern, actually. And both The Rycke and the character in the fic are prone to them (although the Rycke seems to have his a little more under control).
But, I will freely admit this: I'm not a big fan of murder husbands/serial killers in love. I think that if you like either of those tropes, you might like this one more than I did.

I can't quite quantify why what the Rycke does - uncontrollable damage and destruction and death - is so much different (worse) than the other monsters in the series, but it is and it bothered me.It reminded me of nothing so much as a fic I've read wherein a character who has killed in the past has killed again, seemingly uncontrollably, because (I think? This one had me straight up bawling towards the end! Ghost is probably my favorite human in the series so far - and Aury is so sweet it kills me. This series just keeps getting better and better. On to the next!
Audiobook listen- I love Lily Mayne's world-building and writing but although I've been gobbling both the books and audible listens this felt a little flat. I cannot tell you how excited I was about the Rycke but maybe the pairing of gentle and gentle didn't work for me.... I also thought the 2 "gentler" voices on the audio weren't doing it for me///it never got me squealing with joy. ALTHOUGH loved meeting MOTH, loved meeting Gloam etc, Rig and all. ON to WYN!
