The Rycke

Oh, Aury. A monster that battles to show he is more than the feared, dangerous version of himself that everyone else knows. Once he finds his human, he learns that he can control himself to protect the one he loves. Aury is almost gentle at his core, unless his mate is threatened.

This was just cute vibes all around. A story of two sweet, adorable beings who bond and find love among the Wastes.

Aury was the most cinnamon roll monster ever (most of the time), and I loved their sweet and gentle relationship.

«I didn’t care what he could become. I didn’t see that monstrous face when I looked at Aury. This was my sweet, gentle, kind monster. He was still my Aury.»

The plot was a little slower than the previous books — more focused on their relationship rather than action. The change of pace was nice, though. It fit their personalities, the ambience being a little softer and calmer.

My favorite bits had to be the Moth snippets. I’m sorry, but I love him way too much, and just got super excited every time he was on page. So cute.

CW and tropes(spoilers):
- Monster x human
- ‘Touch him you die’ (literally)
- Death, violence & gore
- Forked tongue
- Rimming
- Vers MCs

The Rycke is the first installment in the Monstrous series where we follow a raider rather than the military. Ghost is a scout at a raider camp, and when the book opens, he and his best friend Rig are going through the military facility Wyn destroyed in [b:Soul Eater|58114709|Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)|Lily Mayne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1621626697l/58114709._SY75_.jpg|90094767], looking for supplies they can use. During their search, they find a monster that has been left in chains, and they decide to rescue him and bring him back to their camp. Ghost is immediately attracted to the monster, Aury, but they're both pretty quiet and shy, so it takes awhile for them to get together. After they do, Moth, a half monster raider, visits the camp and warns Ghost that Aury is much more dangerous than he appears.

I ended up liking this one more than I thought I would. The beginning moves slower than the other two books, so I wasn't immediately pulled in like I was with the others. And the relationship is definitely more soft and sweet. But, I ended up really liking Aury and Gage. They were just so cute together that it made up for the lower amount of action.

Another great quick read. LOVE Aury
Not all of us developing a cum fetish from this monster though... XD
. Gage is a little manic in an endearing way. The story calls back to characters we've already met like Moth and Cat which is really making the worldbuilding dynamic for such short books.
Surprised the whole Mary situation was resolved with nothing happening. While I appreciate the fact that the good guys always 'win' in this series, I would like a little more actual conflict that has me concerned for our MCs.
So glad Aury's POV at the end addressed the issue of the humans lives being shorter. This was wrecking me with the first two books and I still wonder how that will all play out.

Still really enjoyed this one but it didn’t hit the same, for me it was hard to get into the raider camp aspect of it all. Had a few moments reading it that I was kinda bored and just wanted more. The way Ghost acted would sometimes hit a little close to home too

Aww, poor Aury. He has gone through so much and it is heartbreaking. And Ghost too. They were made for each other. Their strengths matched up with the others weaknesses. And they were both so fierce for the other. Both were so sweet and loving. Another fun and different plot.
