You’ll love this if you like the trope where the super dangerous character protects their love by absolutely losing it and obliterating anything in their way.
Aury is that, but also somehow insanely shy and sweet at the same time. The MCs are a little TOO sweet for my liking, but that doesn’t make this book boring. I love how this book developed the characters at the camp.

I've been curious about the Rycke since "Soul Eater". I loved the new setting (bc acab and that def goes for the military as well) and finding out how Raiders live. Ghost was such a relateable character in his people-pleasing ways. And the lore around the Rycke was so satisfying to discover.
I had to put it down for a moment after camp Topeka, because I was so angry at Ghost. And then the thing with the soldiers... it was a lot of devastation all at once.
I wish the "mate" idea was worked out a little more. The concept has come up in all three books so far, and I still feel like it's not very fleshed out.
I finished "Gloam" before this one, and even though that one was a lot darker, the pace and Rig's determination made it an easier read.

Aury... My sweet baby Aury just hurts my heart and makes me want to wrap him in a great big hug. His pain and trauma just grip me because despite all of the cruelty he suffered from, he is still the sweetest monster freaking ever. I absolutely ate up the connection Ghost and Aury had from the very beginning. They're both so quiet and have been dealt hard lives, but they find comfort and solace within each other, and it is the sweetest thing I have ever read. There were definitely moments that really hurt my heart for these two, but every second of pain and sadness was worth it in the end. I will continue to absolutely adore this world and these characters that Lily Mayne has masterfully created. I absolutely recommend everything about this book and this series!

Ugh, this was so sweet and I love Lily Mayne’s writing so much. I really liked the other characters we met and of course, getting a glimpse into life as a raider in the Wastes. Very excited to read more in this series, especially Moth’s story!

Went a bit back and forth on what to give this for a rating, but you know me, I always go with the higher. Anyways, totally related to Ghost’s anxiety and catastrophizing. Aury is like a soft wounded teddy bear, who everyone is afraid of. Great side characters. This camp, and Cat, and Moth, have been mentioned before but we mostly just are getting new characters this book. Which is awesome!
