Just got a complete collection of Famous Five so I got my hands full to read them in order 😆

I'm all in for the calm, peaceful vibes of their vacations, a bike ride by the beach, ginger beer, picnic, tea time, and rock sugar! For some lines, such as "boys don't cry like a girl" you have to remember the year this book was released to understand the context. But overall, it's a nostalgic and light read!

Read from personal collection (Lima Sekawan: Di Pulau Harta)

The children both enjoyed this one - and are always engaged in the old fashioned British words. They are pretty used to identifying the obvious stereotypes in ´classic ‘ literature (´only girls cry’ etc) so can ignore those parts and just enjoy the idea that these children are basically unsupervised on an island!

Julian, Dick and Anne had a holiday in their cousin’s house, Georgina. The four and a dog wandering on Kirin Island hunting a treasure. Are they find it smoothly? You need to read it to find it out.

The characters was realistic presented. I mean, Georgina parents stressed with their financial difficulties and wreak it to her (almost on a rude way). The three cousins come up and fill her days, doing adventure together and somewhat without realise it, fixing their family too. This book was very good to teach children about teamwork in dangerous / difficulty sitution, to respect each other opinion and also emphaty. The adventure itself was very short. I’m little disappointed that the bad guys’re not being take care well and story about them is just hanging up. But hey, this was a children’s book or maybe the author just wanna let it as a mystery, who knows?

This was very sweet and I'm glad I finally got my hands on it after hearing the Famous Five referenced in multiple other books. It has the same feel as The Boxcar Children but less boring. The world of the book is overly simple and straightforward (like the fact that
George's dad is unhappy from not making enough money and then becomes a completely different person once they have money
) but in a way that's pretty typical for a kids' read like this. It was an enjoyable and fairly uncomplicated adventure story, and I would happily share this with my kids, as well as read the sequels.
