This was an enjoyable novella. The plot, was fun. I enjoyed learning more about how the manor works and all of the fun little quirks built into it. The exploration of magic and history into the Thorne family was well done. I appreciated that this novella continued the story while still having conflict and storyline.

A novella from the Sorcery of Thorns series, takes us back to the Thorn Manor with a new mystery. The story takes place some time after the events of the main story, with Elisabeth living with Nathaniel and Silas. However, now, the Manor is attacking them, locking them all inside.

As an idea, it was nice to be back in the Sorcery of Thorns world and wrap up all those lose ends that were left almost unanswered in the main book.

However, the novella isn't at the same level as the novel. The gothic atmosphere and the almost like a dark fairy tale mood that the main book had and was what I enjoyed the most about it, is gone and here were have a few scenes of an enchanted mansion and more talk about the future and what is to happen to the main couple.

I do have to add though that there were a few dialogues that made me laugh. And the writing was enjoyable, especially when it came to the characters.

2024 reads: 131/250

in this novella, we follow elisabeth, nathaniel, and silas as they figure out how to unravel the magical trap keeping them from leaving thorn manor for the midwinter ball.

i’m so glad i jumped on the sorcery of thorns train late so that i could read this almost immediately after! i really liked seeing all these characters again. (especially silas, my fav<3) the plot was also interesting and fast-paced, which i loved. sad to see these characters go, but i’m very happy we got this novella!!

It's disappointing for me that a Margaret Rogerson book wasn't at least 4 stars for me but I think that should be expected when going into a novella. This novella didn't add very much to the main characters for me which is what I was hoping for, kind of like a romance retreat. However, it did add a significant bit to Silas's character.
