Uhh I'm not really sure how to review this book. I liked it but didn't love it. I had expected it to be a bit better.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked the kidnapping and financial embezzlement combo. It had been ages since I'd read a thriller where there wasn't a primary murder.
I liked the character of Ashlyn. A teenager forced to grow up too fast by her parents' unintended indifference. Each and every member of their family is harbouring their own secrets. The sheer vastness of their huge Boston house is separating them not only by space, but also emotionally. They feel like they're on the brink of falling apart but then the unimaginable happens. They are kidnapped.
I liked the creepy, shivery atmosphere created in the prison. I like the fact that they're forced to confront each other in the worst possible hell-hole. I liked Radar.
The alternate pov between Libby and Tessa was intriguing and added to the suspense.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't like Tessa Leoni that much. I felt that she and Wyatt were kind of bumbling around screwing up certain parts of the investigation. A major development in the end could have been avoided had they had patience to call for backup. And at so many points I felt the investigation team was just waiting and doing nothing. If the story was supposed to convey the detectives' frustration about not doing much active stuff, I guess it worked.
Overall it was an okay book. But I'm just not feeling that high feeling that I get at the end of a thriller. But I'm still giving it 3.5 stars instead of lesser coz the storyline was well researched and quite good.

I figured out who the bad guy was half way through, but not the reasoning behind the crime.
Excellent book, like all Lisa Gardner books it had me guessing for a while. Tessa Leoni has been one of my favorites since her own book "Love You More" and I can safely say she is still one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to more books featuring Tessa.
Twee korte nachten en heel wat onverwachtse plotwendingen verder is het boek ineens uit. Het beste boek dat ik tot nu toe van Lisa Gardner las. Een aanrader! ( wel niet in beginnen als je weinig leestijd hebt ;) )
