Found this boring and the main character annoying unfortunately
I really loved this. Seriously, there is very little about this that annoyed me. I really toyed with giving this 5 stars, but in the end, a couple of things made me drop that star.
Things I liked...
THE WRITING - I had never read anything by Sariah Wilson before, but I can instantly say I would 100% read more from her. It was amazing.
THE PLOT - I loved the concept of this and the whole "only wants to be friends" thing. It just added another dimension to the already fun concept and I just loved the progression and how it played out. It was really well-paced and decently gripping.
THE HUMOUR - This definitely ties into the writing style a bit but MY LORD was this funny. Shay was so funny, exactly my kind of humour. Maddison's internal thoughts made me laugh so much because it was so like my internal thoughts. And Tyler and Brad, their humour was so bad it came full circle back to being funny again. Seriously, this book had the COM element of Rom-Com down to a T.
THE CHARACTERS - I really liked all of the characters. Even the ones we as readers were meant to hate were good (good in the sense of good character development/backstory/arc, not good as in morally good) I really liked Maddison and I felt an affinity towards her even though I couldn't relate to her situation which is normally what makes me connect with a protagonist - so that is another point for amazing writing. Tyler was fun and I loved his backstory, I wish it had been a little less of an info dump chapter on his part but I don't know where else it would have fit in the story otherwise so I'm not too mad about that.
Shay was my favourite character. Alongside Brad, because he was just so Brad he was good...if you've read the book you'll understand haha.
Things I didn't like...
THE LAST PAGE - yup. The last page is basically the reason this book dropped an entire star. This was such a beautiful, slow burn, friendship to love romance...and then the last page just decided to squander all the amazing work and life-like progress of the book for the sake of a dramatic ending? Like no. WHY!! It really didn't have to end that way. But take off the last page, and I'm not even kidding, just the very last page and this book would have been in my top reads of the year. I would rant about this more but I don't want to be spoilery.
MADDISON (some of the time) - I already said I loved Maddison, and that's true, I really liked her and I related to her internal thoughts a lot of the time. But occasionally, her thoughts about Tyler were a little leery? Most romance novels have cliche descriptions of their stunning leading men but this was like another level. His hotness was mentioned constantly. Not just every so often like in most romances, but to the extreme here - in a way that came off pretty creepy most of the time. Definitely made me feel a little uncomfortable every now and again. Got better once Tyler seemed to return the feelings but before that, it was AWKWARD to read.
So that's all, great read. Definitely recommend but that final page just let it down.

This was a fun read. You have to take the characters with a grain of salt. Madison has multiple self esteem and emotional issues and wasn’t really sure how to interact with a normal person but the author did a good job of merging their worlds together and pulling them together as a couple. You truly felt for Tyler and how he ended up being used by Madison’s parents in the end. His unknowing participation made the foundation of their relationship so much stronger. Good communication is always best in a relationship.
