I like this book because does not give the "christian-ese" pat answer of read your bible, pray, go to church.
Instead it confronts your pain and gives you insight on why it's there and what good can come of it.
the greatest lesson I learned from this book is that every life story has a theme of betrayal and redemption.

Dan Allender, one of my mentors online and through seminars, wrote this book in 1999. I was hesitant to read it, because I know he is a writer/teacher whose ideas move forward and interpret the horizon and I wondered whether this book would stand the test of time as his work continues to evolve. But it proved to be a foundational book of his work, that life in fullness, healing, and God involve holding our pain and our hopes hand-in-hand, that the two together show the full picture of who we are and how we are meant to influence this world.

When I read Allender, I tend to get bogged down about 2/3rds through because while he teaches and leads me through a process of understanding, I start to cry out for practicalities. He takes his readers on a journey where he uncovers each rock, digs deep, and then invites us to take a look at what has been unearthed. Readers who are wanting a bottom-line quickly might get frustrated. I, however, am thankful I took the time with this book as I commit to learning what real emotional healing can look like and involve in day-to-day life, using both the frameworks of faith and the studies of psychology and people.

This is a deeply encouraging book about hope, embracing life, and how God draws us closer to Himself. It encompasses what I want to be and believe at this crossroads in my life. I know I say this about a lot of books, but I really feel like I need to start re-reading it right away so I can process it better. HIGHLY recommended. 4.5 stars.

This one was recommended to me by my counselor (he read many excerpts in our sessions, and I knew I wanted to read the whole thing) and I can't rave enough. This book is rich and helpful and meaningful and so incredible -- if you're on any sort of healing journey from any sort of hurt, abuse, pain, grief, etc... read this one. It's a soothing balm for any aching soul.
