This entire series is fantastic. I read all four books in about 21 days. Recommend for anyone who likes magical realism, or books that tug at your heart strings just a little, but aren't Nicholas Sparks / Kristin Hannah level.

It was so lovely to return to Tokyo and meet some new characters. The last story was particularly powerful.

This series never fails to make me feel so many emotions. It has this inherent predictability to the plot that I think makes it easier to focus on the new characters we meet and the emotions they feel. This book in particular interested me because the timeline didn't match up with what I expected, as it seems to take place before the prior book. And while the other books generally had a plotline around a specific character in the staff that carried on as the connecting feature throughout the stories, this one did not have that. Instead, what connected them was the theme from the title: saying goodbye. All of the stories surrounded loss and saying farewell to those we love while resolving past regrets. I did wish there was more about the staff because I've grown to care for them a lot, but I enjoyed this different lens of looking at the stories.

I liked this better than the previous book in the series, but not quite as much as the first two. There really are a limited number of types of stories that you can tell in this format and I think the series might be hitting a wall. The story about the dog was my favourite.

One of my fave book series! Was so looking forward to reading this and was not disappointed. It is mellower than the previous books but still very good. Might be a biased opinion with how much love I have for this series. By plot timeline I think this is a prequel rather than a sequel, as one of the main characters is a child in this book. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it immensely.
