Found myself o.f.t.e.n. saying "YES!" while reading this - she so eloquently expresses some opinions that I have had for years, and that was satisfying. There are a few things we don't completely line up on, but her discussion of all topics in the book is so calm and measured, that it definitely provides food for thought. I'm definitely grateful for this book.

This was a fabulous little essay that should be required reading for every parent. It resonates with me deeply not only as a woman but as someone who wishes for my child to grow up in an equal and more balanced world without boundaries for gender. I wish that there was an equally well written version for how to raise a feminist son (or if there is please pass it on). Adichie was asked by a friend for advice on how to raise a feminist daughter and this is what transpired. Articulate and to-the-point but extremely readable.

I hope I never need this advice on how to raise a child, but it's definitely given me some ideas for future gifts for women who actually want/wanted to become mothers

I would give this more stars if I could. It is a succinct, powerfully written manifesto focusing on the small, engendered, and women-disempowering minutiae of the world. Though it was written with the focus on developing the next generation, the intention is to alter the behaviour of the current generation.
It is a great and short read for the feminist (or wannabe) on the go. I am strongly considering purchasing a copy for all of my friends. Highly recommended!
