I am definitely reading the next books and buying them to own. This book is not for everyone as it does involve a lot of topics related to sex slavery and rape. It is also not the best for people who want a quick romance, this is more of a slow burn in some ways.

I did not expect to like this book. It had very dark themes warned in all the reviews and that made me nervous but I saw a TikTok of someone doing a skit of a scene and decided to read it anyway.

I am GRIPPED. I finished it in like 6 hours, and just could not put it down. The dark themes were still there and definitely stressful but the high stakes at every turn kept me reading at every chance!!!

I expected to hate Laurent forever after his mistreatment of Damen. Specifically when he immediately puts him in the like rape pit (thankfully he fights his way free) and then has him whipped until he nearly DIES. But somehow the writing of his fuckin book has me giggling and kicking my feet whenever they share a significant look and what is that ABOUT.

Captive Prince, as a novel, gets a 4☆ for me. As a re-read after 7 years, it was such a fun reading experience! The worldbuilding, though emotionally challenging and shocking, was so well done from the get to. And seeing the progression of Damen and Lauren't dynamics from enemies to temporally reluctant allies is so 🤌🏼 GOOD!

This edition contains an extra short story, Erasmus's training AND IT WAS SO SO GOOD. First time reading it and I'm floored to see how much I enjoyed it. The ending was surprising, heartbreaking and devastating for so many reasons. I hope Erasmus and Kallias find each other again... 4.5☆

This specific edition I give 4.25 because the short story at the end elevates the rating (such a nice bonus!)

Honestly… I couldn’t even tell you if you liked this. It’s a really unhappy book. There are some gems of dialogue and some of the plot points are quite cleverly arranged, but at the same time the content is unnecessarily brutal and for no reason. The presence of a child sex slave, even with external commentary, is upsetting. I’m only going to continue because my friends have promised me the sequels are worth it.
