This was very much a treatise on why people go to war, so interesting in that respect, but in terms of Arthuriana and original plot, it was a little light.

It’s not exactly fair to give this a rating since White didn’t have a chance to do final edits on the manuscript. It definitely isn’t as refined and meanders compared to the rest of The Once and Future King. I can see why this wasn’t published with the rest though because of the anti-war sentiment and the being of the cusp of WWII. I do think this needs to be read because of those themes.

What I learned from this is that we should be like geese.

Interesting concept for the finale of such a tale. I think the whole collection of these 5 books is pretty much a must for medieval fantasy lovers. Very well done (except from the 2nd book I'd say). The ending is a bit weird. I really think you dont need to read it. The collection stands perfectly with the 4 books

This books was mostly a ramble about the human condition and politics, but also partly heartwarming. I wouldn't consider it a necessary read for after The Once and Future King, but it wraps up King Arthur's character nicely.

I can see why this one was not part of the original publication. It halts a narrative at its climax to discuss the ideology of war. Which at times was a bit of a slog to get through for me. I see what T.H. was doing with it and I am glad I read it right after The Once and Future King, even if it was a bit wordy.
