The author has a very easy-to-read writing style, and convey emotions without excess wording. I learnt much about the culture of Afghanistan and the plights that the people face, in their own land and out of it. Grief, regret, and guilt is constant throughout the book, which the author uses to create a powerful story.

Though, honestly, this book wasn't that impactful to me. It didn't make me feel emotional, it didn't have that big an impact on me as I was expecting it to. Perhaps this is because I had high expectations after hearing about all the good reviews. Now that I think about it, the protagonist is a really passive character, who doesn't really do much on his own. The writing was easy to follow, which I liked, but the story itself probably won't stick around in my head for long.

Trigger Warnings for this book! This book granted is well written and informative of a horrific period of relatively recent history. But it is harrowing.... I mean just look at the trigger warnings already put in by the reviews. This book is dark and darker. Partly the gut-wrenchingly horrible part of it is that you can see this is based in truth and these things happened to many people and are still happening around the world. I had to finish it to find out what happened and read it in 4hrs straight, but my mind is still troubled and will be for a while I think.

It was okay but I wouldn't read it again. There was a lot going on and it either went by quickly or slowly.

This book deserves all the hype it gets. One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Incredibly, heartbreakingly sad, you think you’ve reached rock bottom but it just keeps getting worse, with both the war in Afghanistan and the protagonist’s personal struggles. I have never read something that explores the Afghani perspective of the war as in depth as the Kite Runner does; reading it with the hindsight of 2021 only makes it more sad.

Hosseini’s prose is elegant and beautiful; his method of storytelling captivated me just as much as his lovingly crafted characters: Amir, the conflicted protagonist; Hassan, the devoted and loving servant; Baba, Amir’s indomitable father.

Explores themes of the horrors of war, sexual assault, racism, classism, terrorism in a skilful and meaningful way. Everybody should read this book.
