I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was so incredibly emotinal while still maintaining the hopeful, unexpected style of storytelling. This man has a specific writing style and you either love it or hate it. My favourite part was the beginning, then it got slow and not very interesting in the middle, but it regained its pace at the second half of the book.

another book club read but also one for my current quest to read more muslim literature.

SO well-written and emotional. my only critique, which isn’t really a critique but more of a preference, is that it was such a male-dominated book. i think part of that speaks to the patriarchal culture and vastly different experiences of men and women in a lot of Central Asian Muslim families, so I am looking forward to reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author to get more of the female experience that I connect with more

It isn't a bad book but it just isn't the type of book for me.

I personally think most realistic fiction books aren't entertaining. Sure a lot are well written I just don't think they are fun to read.

This book was one of them. It isn't a book I would've picked on my own. It was well written though so minus personal preference there is nothing wrong with it.

Also if anyone is like, "Why did they put it wasn't diverse?" A story where most characters are part of the same minority is just as not diverse as one where most characters are not part of a minority.
