This graphic novel was AMAZING. I loved the illustration and colors, sometimes I just zoned out staring at the pictures. The plot is so good, pretty fast, but I became so invested. I so wish there was more to this story, that ending was a jaw dropper. Excellent story!

Thank you Netgalley and Image Comics for access to this eARC of The Cull by Kelly Thompson.

Trigger warning: self-harm, grief, and physical abuse.

“You cull the weak, but you’re culling every person that has had to survive something horrific!”

This is an intriguing first installment into a multiverse, video game-like, survival of the fittest. The set up of this story was brilliantly done with the almost perfect balance of intrigue and fleshed out world-building. The dialogue never takes away from the enchanting artwork on each page. I’m deeply anticipating the next installment in this series!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my review copy.

It's very realistic compared to the comics I usually read and after finishing it, I am unsure if I like it. The colouring on the pages was pretty.

It's a creepy art style overall, which is also coupled with the quite realistic art style which looks more like fanart or a painting, leads to a chilling read as it feels very uncanny valley to me.

There's not many visual differences between the panels of the comic, so this makes it very easy to read and I would have liked some variation to the horizontal rectangle panels.

The plot is interesting and very character-driven, rather than plot, but we do get a huge cliffhanger at the end and I want to know what happens next.
