Easily one of my favorite reads of 2024 thus far. Andrew Joseph White knocks it out of the park again with a richly described world with its own unique systems, and a cast of diverse characters. Great mystery, unexpected twists and turns, and ghosts!

An incredible, uncomfortable, fantastical work of historical fiction. Truly captures the horror of having a female body in a timeless way. My stomach turned, my heart raced, and I struggled putting it down. The MCs autism and possible OCD added a lot to the story. Once again I am in awe of White's ability to write for teens, not down to teens. Exemplary YA horror.
Please check the CWs lol

I really did enjoy this story. I was sceptical at first of the writing but then it grew on me. I would have loved a bit more horror elements but I am aware that this is for a YA audience.
And I do think there was some pacing issue, both story and relationship wise. I think this book would have been better if it lasted over a period of a couple of months instead of a few days.

Still amazing and highly recommend!
