Enjoyed this book enough. Most of the characters were hard to like, but I think it was to say no one is really easy to like once you get to know all their flaws. That’s why relationships are responsibility and require work.

The Last Book Party is an atmospheric and inviting novel about growing up to leave behind misconceptions and creative restraints. Throughout most of the novel Eve is caught in the shadow of her shame for not being brilliant in the eyes of her family, and craving something more out of her life, even if that means making poorly considered and ill-fated decisions for her relationships and career. While the book was a relaxing read due to its easy-going descriptions of Cape Cod, it also felt like watching an explosion in slow motion. I appreciated its message on how genius is not all its made out to be, and its thoughtful exploration of a flawed protagonist.

Amazing book, I read it in 2 or 3 days! It’s a book about books so what’s not to love? I enjoyed that the author mentions certain book titles as character faves to give insight into that characters’ personality and some insight into their relationships with other characters. I especially loved the mentions of Middlemarch as I read and adored it earlier in the year!
The characters are complex, you love them but get frustrated with them at times as well. The short chapters made it quick and easy to read, so I could easily pick it up whenever I had a moment to read. The author does a great job with the setting as well, I felt like I was on Cape Cod and now I want to go there even more!

This is the author’s first book and I can’t wait to see what she writes next 😍

Well-written but a weak plot. Very summery: I appreciated the lush descriptions of Cape Cod.
Moderate: Antisemitism, Sexism, and Infidelity
