Alisha Rai has yet again, shown why she's my favorite romance author! Giving both main characters motivations and subplots along with the romantic plot to better help round them out and have us relate to them! Plus letting them learn to grow within both plots for their characters was just as entertaining to read as the sweet and hot romance! Honestly, this book is one of the author's best!

It’s funny to me that this series is called Modern Love because the plot of this wouldn’t feel out of place in a historical: a wealthy widow becomes the talk of the town and falls for her overprotective bodyguard. The fact that Jas was ex-military gave me the ick but then you find it out it also gives him the ick, which I really appreciated. We don’t often get portrayals of people who regret signing up in the first place. I did think Jas’s pining for Katrina was a little extreme given he’s almost 40 and at one point Katrina admits to never having asked him a question about himself. There were also some questions about their families left unanswered by the end. But overall this was a cute romance with just enough substance to keep me invested.

Honestly, I thought this was rather boring and I was confused by the character's backstories.

Karina King is a retired model doing philanthropy and making wise investments with her deceased husband's money. She has friends and money and is content with life the only thing negatively affecting her crippling agoraphobia. Karina has been slowly working through her trauma with her therapist when suddenly she becomes the internet's person of interest and is desperate to run away.
Jas Singh, Karina's bodyguard, comes to her rescue and takes her away to his family's farm to hide out.
As they spend time together in a remote place, they discover that the love they have for each other isn't unrequited.

This was such a cute novel!! This is the 2nd book of Rai's I've read and I really do love her writing. It's just so much fun and romantic.

I like this one as much as the 3rd book in this series. Karina is such a sweet female lead. I love how she kept to her morals and tried desperately to be good. Her backstory is a little too soap operay
Spoilerfor example her husband taking care of her for no reason seemed too far fetched.
Nevertheless, I appreciate the growth she went through and how she learned to be more open. I liked how her side plot with her father was solved.

I adored Jas as a male lead but this book had the same issue as the previous book. His side plot didn't properly get resolved? Sure, he had character growth but his side plot with the military and being more open with his family, didn't get fully resolved. It's implied but not fully resolved by the end of the book.

Super cute romcom and I'm definitely going to keep a eye out for Rai's works because I've enjoyed two so far!

The second installment in Alisha Rai’s Modern Love series, Girl Gone Viral, is a sweet and sexy rom com about a former model and her bodyguard! Katrina King used to be an It Girl in society. But, the fame and attention came at a cost that she did not want to pay-- dealing with her abusive father. When the opportunity to marry a man much older (and wealthier) than her and get free of her father-- she took it. And, when he passed away, she moved on with her life but stayed sheltered to avoid a run in with her father. Now, many years later, a series of social media posts go viral, putting her in the spotlight once again. Luckily for Katrina, she has her longtime crush and overqualified bodyguard to help her out. When these two are forced into close proximity sparks fly. But, they have both been burned before. This book features a moderate amount of angst for a romantic comedy, and I definitely recommend checking out the trigger warnings before reading.* Overall, you can expect: strong female friendships, forced proximity, bodyguard romance from this book. I am looking forward to seeing what Rai writes next :) 3.5/5⭐️

*Trigger Warning: abusive parent, body shaming, PTSD, death of a loved one

I won this in a Goodreads giveaway and was so excited, alas, life happened and my reading of it was postponed. It was definitely worth the wait, this book was adorable. I feel like pacing was a small issue in some parts but for the most part it was a solid read.
