Secrets of a Marine's Wife is a well-written narrative of the 2014 disappearance and murder of Erin Corwin, a young Marine wife who was far from her home and family back in Tennessee.

Spoiler alert:
The book begins with the discovery of Erin's body, months after she vanished from her apartment on base in Twentynine Palms, California. The investigators already have a suspect in mind, and now with a confirmed body, they can begin seeking justice for Erin, a naive, newly pregnant 19-year-old girl who loved all animals and had a gift for training the most difficult horses.

It's terrible to say that a horrible crime wasn't that "interesting", but the perpetrator here was simply a brain dead moronic thug. The poor little silly teenage victim should never have gotten married and landed in godforsaken Twentynine Palms in the first place, and certainly should not have had an affair and gotten pregnant by the creep next door. She was good to animals, (he shot coyotes for "fun" didn't that bother her?) but other than appreciating her for that I had a hard time summoning much feeling for anyone else involved here. The author does give it a good try.

Secrets of a Marine's Wife
A True Story of Marriage, Obsession, and Murder
Shanna Hogan has written an incredibly compelling and complex book regarding the brutal murder of Erin Corwin. Hogan does justice to the victim and her family without sensationalizing her death, as far too many true crime authors fail to do, She also does not downplay the troubles in Erin’s life. Hogan does a phenomenal job of revealing the twisted evil mind of the man Erin thought she loved and the bizarre relationship between her killer and his wife.
This is an extremely well-written book. Anyone who follows true crime will certainly be interested in this book. It doesn’t feel right to say I enjoyed a true crime book, but I was intrigued by it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. The views given are my own. #SecretsofaMarine'sWife #NetGalley #StMartinsPress

Listened to on audio.

Narrator had a funny way of doing men’s voices, btw.

Just ok. Sad story (all these true crimes are). Naivety.

Glad the guy did not get away with it.
challenging dark

I do not understand Nicole.  That was a wicked duo.

So sad! What happened to poor Erin is so devastating. I hate that it happens all the time.
