My wife read this book to me while I was driving on a roadtrip. Her mom had found her childhood copy and sent it to her. It has to be one of the most awesomely bad books ever written. It's intended for children of course, but that doesn't make it any less terrible. It's some screwy adventure tale of two young sisters on a sinking ocean liner who end up alone in a life boat with two or three babies. IT'S LIKE A DREAM COME TRUE! The older sister is quite the mother hen, while the younger, butcher sister takes on the more masculine role of provider. She finds canned meat. They land on an Island and make a little home for themselves there. We were laughing so hard I almost ran off the road a few times. Its awful, and totally worth the read.

This book was a hoot! A friend listed it on her facebook "Top Ten" as a favorite from childhood. Surprisingly, I had never heard of it, even though I was a huge Carol Ryrie Brink fan (how many times did I read The Pink Motel and Caddie Woodlawn?) This felt like a cross between The Swiss Family Robinson and The Boxcar Children.

I have to admit, I didn't see the ending coming; I expected happily ever after, but not the way it developed. As historical reference, it's interesting to see how things have changed in almost 80 years.

*3.5 Stars

The plot was basic and the characters’ personalities are very similar those of other books from the time, but not bad for a simple 60s children’s book.

I loved this when I read it as a kid, but was appalled at it when I looked at it a couple of years ago. It is harmless YA, but I'd read something else first, given the chance.

I recall a friend of mine telling me about this book when we were younger and then I recently remembered I had a copy on my shelf, so I decided to read it. I probably would have loved it more when I was younger. Overall a cute story. :)

A review by Ashlyn: I think it was really good but you shouldn't read it in little parts. Then it gets boring. I think it was really cool because there was pirates on the island and they didn't even know it. I liked that they made a little path through the forest to connect them.

I did not like this book. I read it for book club, and there is no way I ever would have picked it up on my own. There is nothing in it that I liked as a kid and there's nothing in it that I like as an adult.

This was another favorite of mine when I was a kid. I really liked the storyline and how the two girls cared for the babies.

As my friend said, "Baby Island might be the best thing that ever happened to you."
