DNF at 49%. 1,037 characters later and barely know who anyone is and definitely can’t track what’s happening to them aside from two couples but their stories were speeding along without much development aside from a uhaul delivery of sadness. I know, I suck.

Ethan Joella is an incredible writer that knows how to capture the realist of emotions. Having recently read A Quiet Life, it’s easy to see that he has a specific writing style as both books cover themes such as loss, grief and resilience, alternate between 3-4 individual stories that intersect, and are character-driven. I will say that as an audiobook, it was hard to keep track of the many characters. I also did not love the narrator’s female voice during dialogue.

4.5 for me! So so sooooo good! Heartbreaking and heartfelt all at the same time. This story follows several characters in this small little town whose lives intertwine in all sorts of ways. The end almost had me in happy tears

I loved the continual movement forward of time, but through difference lens’. There were many times where my heart hurt out of empathy or smiled out of joy. I would absolutely recommend this book.

Despite the title, a mostly sad book

It was a good book, but it was too sad for me. I hadn't thought the book was going to be happy all the way through, but I was just devastated every other story. I had a hard time finishing because it was a little too much for me.

This book will easily hook you in with a handful in interlocked stories about people in a small town in Connecticut. CW for pregnancy loss, parental illness, tragic accidents killing the young…there’s a lot of death.

2.5⭐️
This book broke my heart, and not really in a good way.. there are MAJOR trigger warnings associated with this book (drug addiction, multiple deaths, cancer) and for being called “A Little Hope” I found myself searching and searching for the hopeful moments. It felt like one depressing thought after another.
I liked the small town setting and how thoughtfully the characters were woven into each others lives, however there were SO many characters and only 20 chapters. This left each character with one, maybe 2 short chapters each. The final chapter did include everyone and it was clear it had tried to wrap things up, but I did find myself searching for more about each characters story and what happened next. The only characters I felt fully wrapped up were Greg and Freddie (yay!) but that did leave a lot left untold.
