There were too many people and too many different stories going on to keep everything straight. It was kind of depressing and down and I just didn’t love it. I mostly skimmed through the last third of the book.

2.5⭐️⭐️✨. Happy March! kicking it off with the one minute and ten seconds I saved of this audio to make it a march book instead of february 😂 as you may have surmised, I didn’t enjoy this at all. it was boring and sad and there were too many characters and a bunch of people died and what i did NOT feel was a little hope. lit fic is not my genre right now so i should really stop trying but I found this in an LFL and thought I’d be entering a new era (narrator: spoiler alert - she would never leave her fantasy era). speaking of narrators I hated this guy and couldn’t be bothered to look his name up. this still gets 2.5 because the cover is pretty and probably this book is good for someone who isn’t me lol

This felt like a really good start to a novel. I felt it was a bit all over the place and I wish a few characters were eliminated and that time was used to develop the main characters more. I loved Freddy and Greg, Mrs. Crowley and Ginger but I really didn’t care about anyone else.
This is the first book I've read by Ethan Joella, and I almost gave it 4/5 stars....but it was hard to read at times. There are a lot of characters and many sub-plots in this book. Actually, the book is made up of sub-plots, and there is not one "main" storyline to follow. Because of this, it is sometimes hard to keep the characters straight. I had to go back a couple of times to help me remember certain characters, as many of them are mentioned anecdotally (or so it seems to me).
However, this author did a great job of telling the story, even though there were a lot of stories to keep track of. It was also fun that one of the characters, Freddie, applied for the Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. And even though many of the characters are struggling (they all are in their own way), the book lives up to the title, "A little hope." It's a good reminder to not give up in our own lives, especially when it seems as though all hope might be lost.
