Really loved these stories. They are extremely intimate and moving on many levels, exploring complicated family and social dynamics (some of which I can relate to, some I obviously can’t). A really incredible lens into the immigrant experience in America (focused on the Bengali community near Boston) but this book is ultimately universal in its core themes. Would def recommend to anyone.

This is a series of short stories about Bengali American immigrants acclimating in their own unique ways to this cultural shift while dealing with the pressures of their identity and familial ties. Stunning writing and touching thoughts with no perfect endings.

This is the second short story collection I’ve read from Jhumpa Lahiri & I feel just as impressed by this one as I did the other. Lahiri makes characters that feel so incredibly real, and rich. In just short stints with these characters we grow to know and love them, as well as grieve alongside them. Some stories made more of an impact on me than others, which is to be expected with any short story collection & not commentary on the quality of the book as a whole.
I would recommend Lahiri to anyone!
