The mystery and crime aspect? Good
A satisfying ending? Not really

Throughout this book I felt that the pandemic was shoehorned in, almost as if the book was written prior and then quickly followed up with “shit, better talk about masks and vaccines”.

The mentions of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter without taking any kind of stance was also strange

The content was a bit grim for my taste but still a solid crime novel. Included the pandemic and other current social issues

In a long ways this felt like a season of the Bosch TV show. There were multiple things going on, multiple view and storylines, in overall the city and it's impacts drive various elements. Ballard is used well in while Bosch is present he's not a crutch. In other words this isn't a wash book in disguise. I like the detail about impacts of protest and political of evil, and I also like the trust and distrust elements. They all felt very real. Overall great entry in the series.

Not as much fun as usual Harry Bosch books. But it was okay.

A pandemic thriller. I never thought I would be reading a Pandemic book.
On New Year's Eve celebrations Ballard is called in on a gun shooting and starts to suspect it as murder. Along with this case, Ballard is tangled with a team of rapists called "The Midnight Men". And during the investigation, retired detective Bosch is also pulled in and both work together towards justice.
Absolute brilliant thriller. Connelly has put together a fabulous story. A Nail biter :)

Happy Reading!!
