As a guide to the Shadowhunters I’d rate this a 5/5 stars. It’s a great guide and definitely made me feel like I was a Shadowhunter at certain moments, but when it comes to the experience of reading it, it’s pretty dull.
This was a really interesting read. I had fun adding my own notes on the codex while studying the material with the other Shadowhunters ;) I quite love the style of the codex and all the little sarcastic and funny comments
My actual rating is 4.5 stars. Really I think it is just me being annoying ; I just wanted more little notes from Clary, Jace and Simon as those were really fun (and sometimes sad). But that's the only thing.
This book was a very nice read, I felt like I was reading an history book and I enjoyed it. Having read both The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments, I could see and understand references and that was my favourite part of reading The Shadowhunter's Codex.
I think this book is really more for the fans of the series, but as it is my case, it was perfect.

Interesting addition, to deepen your knowledge or just refreshen it.
I somehow didn't really process when I started it that it would read exactly like an actual textbook, despite the fact that it's... meant to be a textbook. Hahahaha. BUT MY PERSONAL IDIOCY ASIDE, it was really well written and full of some great facts about the world and the history of Shadowhunters! The little 'scribbles' in the margins from Clary, Jace, and Simon were great additions as well, as was referencing things said by other characters in relation to the topics. It broke it up nicely!
Mmm...
