I like that we get more background on the Shadow world that we've read so much about but without a story line it kind of felt like I was reading a textbook, (which I guess is kind of true), but I couldn't really get into it to much.

I love it. I finished it. And it was awesome.

I loved learning more about the world, and all of the illustrations! I also really enjoyed all of the commentary from Clary, Jace, and Simon!

3.5*

Maybe 2.5 stars, haven’t decided yet.

This was fine I guess, some parts were entertaining, others fell quite flat. I know this isn't a story book so it can't be held to the same standards as a book with an actual plot and characters but I feel like I could've used my time much better if I hadn't read this. The best parts were the 'notes' from Simon and Clary (Jace's were eh) but they weren't really that frequent over the whole book. Some interesting expansions to the background of the world and the history but honestly I could not care less about the uses of oak wood to Shadowhunters.

Pretty good read. It really cleared up a lot of stuff that I still didn't fully understand. It was pretty cool to read about the history of everything, even though some bits were a little bit boring to read. Clary, Simon and Jace's annotations throughout were really good and made the whole book a lot better :)

The Shadowhunter's Codex is very informative, especially if you would like to know more about the fantastic world Cassandra Clare has created. But because of it's informative format, the book was slightly hard to get through and it was difficult to stay interested throughout reading it. That being said, the book was enjoyable, mainly because of the beautiful sketches scattered throughout the book and the typically hilarious comments from Simon, Clary, and Jace. If you have questions unanswered about Shadowhunters or just need to be a part of that world again, I would recommend reading this book.
