Her Body and Other Parties is an interesting read. It’s a collection of eight short stories that sit between the real world and fantastical horror, largely told through the lens of sex and the characters relationships to their bodies. Like all short story collections, there are some I really liked (Inventory, Real Women Have Bodies) and some I really disliked (Especially Heinous, the Resident). Overall there were a lot of really interesting concepts in here, although some of the stories went over my head a little. I wouldn’t say I enjoyed this book, but I am glad I read it. Rated a 3/5 as that’s my average rating over all the stories.

machado’s writing is always so so good, and each story eventually captivated me, but the switching worlds all the time was tough for me to get into — i think i just don’t like short stories, but if you do, you’ll like this!

i wanted to read this book because i loved in the dream house, but i really don't love body horror. i did read the husband stitch and ultimately enjoyed it, but i feel anxious at the thought of reading the following stories and am going to table this book for now.
