I am so so delighted by this book I can't believe I waited so long to read it. I already want to read it again! I'm intrigued ! I'm swooning ! I'm on the edge of my seat!

This book really had it all - the prose was beautiful and the way it was packaged in letters between the characters made it fit so well into the story. The world at large is interesting and I love the gods element to this story. And this was perfectly YA in the best way that I don't precisely know how to describe.

This book just feels special and sweet and I wish people had been more vehemently recommending this to me to read as I will now go out and do to everyone I know.

3.5 stars. I was confused by the ending that I had to google it and then realized it was a series. I’m a little annoyed by that! I don’t think this book needs to be a series. I liked Roman and iris characters and their rivalry, the typewriters etc. but what I didn’t connect with was the war and the gods. It seemed like a normal society and then randomly 2 gods fighting? I don’t quite understand that whole part.

I don't know much about you
But I know enough to love you
Can I enter your heart?
Although our night is not long
Our hearts are never short
Don't you know how my heart feels
Even if the morning comes without you
I just won't be sad
Like the new white snow that fell overnight
I will remember the night with you

-hide into night ☆ night off

Hide into night by night off is MADE for this book. You cannot tell me otherwise.
I haven’t read a fantasy this good in forever. As someone who barely reads fantasy, this was a surprise. The writing is so simple and easy to understand and yet, it’s so beautiful at times.
Now compare this to six of crows. For starters, I’ve read 50 pages of that book over the course of three months.
I think six of crows is for people who consistently read fantasy while divine rivals is for someone just trying to give fantasy a chance. Please read this. You have literally no reason not to.

Other than the FUCKING ending. I can deal with shit okay? Shit is my middle name. I know what to do when I see shit. BUT THIS?? Fuck this. I understand that not all books are happy and rainbows and unicorns but can we just have ONE moment of peace?? Seriously. WHY? Just why? WHYYYY

Sorry I’m just going to cry now.

I really liked this book. It was action-packed and poetic. The characters were well-rounded and very likeable from Attie to Marisol, and both of the main characters.
