A Tale of Two Cities is a long historical Charles Dickens novel containing two of the best-known passages in literature. The opening words of chapter 1: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” And the closing paragraph of the final chapter: “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” Highly recommended.

I'm listening to this book when I travel, it (along with other countless classics) is available for free at: www.librivox.org
Not as fun as other Dickens, which might have been due to my difficulty following the different connections and relationships. It's also a very small perspective of the french revolution, more about how the revolution affected people on an individual level, and about how the momentum of the revolution was driven by the individual (not an AN individual). Maybe that's why it was so bloody and horrible, because it was just thousands of individuals who wanted blood and their own revenge, instead of a more focused intent and idea.
Also I didn't find any of the characters as grabbing as other Dickens characters. I suppose it is generally less of a character focused novel, I've just found the characters to be such a draw in other Dickens.
