I remember really enjoying this book in high school and so I decided to read it again! A fantastic book, and I really think I hold it a little more preciously knowing that the Dark Knight Trilogy (or at least Dark Knight Rises) has a nod to the character of Sydney Carton.

“I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people rising from this abyss, and, in their struggles to be truly free, in their triumphs and defeats, through long, long years to come, I see the evil of this time and of the previous time of which this is the natural birth, gradually making expiation for itself and wearing out…
It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.”

I can't really say to be that big of a Dickens fan, but there's something about Tale of Two Cities that really connects with me. Maybe it's how these characters are so thoroughly fleshed-out as real people against this hugely historic backdrop. Or maybe it's the style of writing, how it deviates from the Dickensian standard and gives way to a certain playfulness, as though Dickens just wanted to try out a new style. Whatever the case, this is definitely a must-read for Dickens fans.

the third book was incredible but MAN the first two were hard to get through

I currently don't have the time nor the interest required to absorb this book. I will say that it had me laughing in many moments, which I did not expect. I had no idea Dickens could be quite funny.
